On St. George's Day a crowd of 150 people, including The Company of Palm Sunday 1461 in full battle order, gathered in Saxton churchyard, Towton, where this monument is situated adjacent to Lord Dacre’s tomb.

The sculpture evokes Towton in every aspect from its arrowhead form to the subtle topographic image of the battlefield worked into its inscription.

It is a fine tribute to the thousands who suffered and died in the Wars of the Roses.

It was unveiled by archaeologist Tim Sutherland, after which a simple, moving service was delivered by the vicar of Saxton Church accompanied by local schoolchildren children reading passages of their own composition to tell Towton’s full story.
